Dr. Kerry Solomon is an internationally recognized leader in cataract surgery, LASIK vision correction and dry eye therapy. Based in Charleston, S.C., he is the managing partner at Carolina Eyecare Physicians and serves as the Director of the Carolina Eyecare Research Institute, which tests and improves technologies and procedures for cataract surgery, refractive lens surgery, LASIK vision correction, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
Acknowledged as a “Top Doctor” by U.S. News & World Report (honoring the top 1% of physicians, the highest rating an ophthalmologist can attain) and a Top 50 Opinion Leader in the Fields of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Dr. Kerry Solomon serves on the executive committee of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (the world’s largest organization of cataract and refractive surgeons). In 2016, he will act as the president of this national organization. As a founding member of the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery, Dr. Solomon also serves on the executive committee of this organization.
As global leader in cataract and LASIK surgery, Dr. Solomon routinely trains surgeons throughout the world on the latest technology. In 2012, he was among the first in the world to perform laser assisted cataract surgery using femtosecond technology. As a result of being on the forefront of technology and research, his patients are often among the first in the world to benefit from next-generation technology including VerifEye, iStent®implants, PRK and iLasik, advanced OZil® ultrasound technology and more.
In addition to his surgical practice and research, Dr. Solomon serves as the chief medical editor of Refractive Surgery Quarterly, and serves on the editorial boards of Premier Surgeon, Ophthalmic Practice, Ocular Surgery News, Archives of Ophthalmology and Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today. He is the past Chairman of the ASCRS FDA Committee.
In 2011, Dr. Solomon, in conjunction with two fellow physicians, founded Operation Sight, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to provide free cataract surgery for those in need. To date, Operation Sight has provided 76 free procedures.
